Provisions per §249 HGB: form, use, release and discount

Eight provision types, draft journal entries for every step, §253 Abs. 2 discounting of long-term provisions, the yearly Aufzinsung and a Rückstellungsspiegel

A provision carries its type, the settlement amount and the expected settlement date. "Form Provision" books expense against the provision account as a draft entry; the use / release wizard books the Inanspruchnahme and the Auflösung. A remaining term of more than one year switches on the §253 Abs. 2 discount by itself, takes the rate from the rate table and books the unwinding as interest expense.

Formation entry

"Form Provision" creates the draft entry expense to provision liability for the carrying amount; journal and accounts are set per provision.

Use and release

The wizard books a partial or full use and the release of the rest, each with its own draft entry; the state moves from formed to partially used, settled or released.

§253 Abs. 2 discounting

More than one year to settlement: present value at the rate of the term bucket from the rate table you keep from the Bundesbank publication; the yearly unwinding is booked as interest expense (§277 Abs. 5 HGB).

Automatic release

A weekly job releases what is still open after the settlement date and drafts the entry when the provision has journal and accounts.
