Compaction Test Log
Field density tests per layer, retests at the same spot and a layer release you can trust.
For earthworks contractors and QA technicians who must reach a specified percentage of the maximum dry density before the next layer goes on. Record sand cone or nuclear gauge tests per layer and location, see dry density and compaction at once, retest failures at the same location and release the layer only when every test passes and the test frequency is met.
Key features
Material sources
Laboratory maximum dry density and optimum moisture per source, with the lab report reference and the compaction method named in the report.
Tests by layer and location
Chainage, offset, grid reference and depth per test, sand cone or nuclear gauge method and the equipment used, with a calibration expiry block.
Dry density and compaction
Dry density from wet density and moisture, percentage of the maximum dry density, sand replacement and oven moisture calculations, optional moisture window as a pass condition.
Retests at the same location
A failed test is retested from its own record at the same chainage and offset; a failure stays open until a retest in its chain passes.
Frequency rule and shortfall
Tests per volume or per area for each layer, the required number and the shortfall, with an activity raised once and a daily check.
Layer release and reports
Release by the QA manager only without open failures or shortfall, a cover-up guard for the layer above, CSV gauge import, test register export, layer report and status by area PDF.
Use cases
- ✓ An earthworks contractor logs nuclear gauge tests per embankment layer and sees the compaction at once.
- ✓ The QA manager releases a layer only when every failed test has a passing retest at the same location.
- ✓ The site engineer sees that a layer is two tests short of the frequency rule before the next layer is placed.
How it works
- Enter the material sources from the laboratory reports
- Create the layer with its specified compaction and test frequency
- Record or import the field tests and retest failures at the same location
- Release the layer and place the next one

Why choose Compaction Test Log
- Layers above an unreleased layer cannot be started, so failed areas are not covered.
- Retests are tied to the failed test and its location, not just added to a list.
- Sand replacement and oven moisture calculations are done for you.
