Road Chainage Progress
See which chainage of which layer is built, approved and still to do.
For road, rail and pipeline contractors who report progress by chainage and layer. Progress entries cover a chainage range of one layer; the app merges overlaps, shows the gaps, holds a layer until the layer below is approved and draws the strip chart that planners used to colour by hand.
Key features
Alignments, sections and lanes
Each alignment has a start and end chainage (metres or 12+345 format), sections with their own width and optional lane codes.
Layer catalogue
Earthworks, subgrade, sub-base, base, binder and wearing course with design thickness, width and a quantity formula: length x width x thickness, area, tonnes with density, or length.
Progress entries
Chainage from and to, date, crew, lane, width and thickness per entry, with the quantity worked out and the overlap with earlier entries shown.
Inspection hold
A layer can only be recorded where the layer below is approved; the error names the chainage ranges that are still open. Managers approve or reject with a reason.
Completed length and planned vs actual
Completed length per layer merges overlapping entries; layer plans give the planned length to date, the variance and ahead, on track or behind.
Strip chart and weekly report
Strip chart with chainage on x and layers on y (approved, recorded, rejected), layer pivot, CSV import of daily sheets and the weekly progress report PDF.
Who uses it
Road contractors
Earthworks and pavement layers reported by chainage to the client every week.
Rail and pipeline crews
Linear works where only the built and inspected sections count.
Site engineers
Record the day's ranges on site and request the inspection from the same screen.
How it works
- Create the alignment, its sections and the layers built on it
- Record progress entries per layer and chainage range
- Request the inspection; the manager approves or rejects
- Follow the strip chart, the layer plans and print the weekly report

Why choose this app
- No layer is recorded on top of an unapproved layer: the hold is enforced, not a reminder.
- Overlapping entries are counted once, so completed length and quantity are right.
- Chainage formats 12+345 and plain metres are both accepted in forms and imports.
- Works on Odoo Community with the Project app only.
